Small Wonder: This Award-Winning Photograph Shows Ants Drinking From A Water Droplet
The content named #Water2020 was held by photo-sharing site Agora in April and Analiza Daran De Guzman won the first prize. Along with her win, she also won $1,000 as prize money.
Let's take a break from coronavirus and talk about something else. Sounds refreshing, right?
So, a Filipino photographer won an international contest with her image of two ants drinking from a drop of water on a leaf. She clicked this in her home in Binangonan, Rizal.
The content named #Water2020 was held by photo-sharing site Agora in April, and Analiza Daran De Guzman won the first prize, and $1,000 as prize money.
Analiza is a mother of three and captured the award-winning photograph with the help of a smartphone with a clip-on macro lens. She used to use a DSLR to practice her photography, but during a trip in 2016, she damaged her equipment.
This led her to become part of an online mobile photography group and that's where she learned about the clip-on macro lenses.
She did not even use a tripod as she said ants can be quick and very hard to photograph.
Apart from the image that made her win the award, Analiza has also captured ants interacting with water droplets as well as flowers. According to her, one of her favourites is a picture of an ant balancing a water droplet on is head.
It took four hours for her to capture the photograph.
Analiza first started taking pictures of the ants interacting with flowers but soon added water droplets after she observed how they stick to the ants' bodies.
She said, ¡°Ants showed more character and were more charming than other insects."
Aside from this, Analiza does fashion photography, runs a travel agency and also runs a small hotel in Coron, Palawan, with her family. Talk about a woman with many talents!
