Thankfully, Matilda's unconsciousness wasn't fatal but she did suffer serious burns on her entire body. She is currently at the Vasilek shelter in St Petersburg where veterinarians are working on her treatment.
She was also checked by a fertility specialist who concluded, after a very long check up, that her pups were fine and healthy. However, she won't be able to feed them once she gives birth as her body is burned. A spokesperson at the shelter said, ¡°Now it is impossible to understand the number of babies she is carrying since she is a big dog."
The patients at the hospice are thankful for Matilda's heroic act, and even though they do not have long to live, she gave her a little more time.
Hospice care is where terminally ill patients are cared for. The hospice's main aim is to provide comfort to patients who cannot ever recover from a chronic disease, so that their last days on Earth are comfortable and peaceful.
