Schoolgirl Fends For Family Selling Vegetables On Bicycle, Assam Police Gifts Her Two-Wheeler
Dibrugarh Police on Monday gifted a two-wheeler to a young girl after her story of selling vegetables on a bicycle to support her family went viral social media.
The nationwide lockdown upended the lives of thousands of underprivileged people across the country. In some cases, children have had no choice but to juggle with school time and providing for their family amid the crisis.
In one such heartbreaking incident, a schoolgirl in Assam was going door to door selling vegetables on her bicycle and is the sole breadwinner for her family.
Janmoni Gogoi, a young girl and a resident of Saphakati Ghogora Gaon of Bogibeel area in Dibrugarh district, had completed her Class 12 from Dibrugarh Government Girls¡¯ Higher Secondary School and along with others, her dream was also to pursue higher education.

Touched by her struggle, Dibrugarh Police gifted Janmoni Gogoi a two-wheeler after her heartbreaking story went viral.
On Monday, a team of Dibrugarh district police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Head Quarter) Pallavi Mazumdar visited Janmoni Gogoi¡¯s home and handed her a moped. Dibrugarh police tweeted, ¡°Janmoni Gogoi sells vegetables on a bicycle to fend for her family. Inspired by herself respect & guided by our visionary @DGPAssamPolice Sir's direction to transform ourselves from the police.
Assam Police personnel and other security forces have been helping the poor and needy since the lockdown began. Last month, Assam Police personnel launched a campaign ¡°Food for All¡± under which they are feeding poor people daily.
According to a report published in India Today, the district police have served food to over 1000 people under the scheme. ¡°Many people who are living on the streets are not getting food. We have started the scheme food for all to help those who are struggling for food. We are serving food to them in eight different points in the district,¡± reported the media house quoting Charaideo district Superintendent of Police (SP) Anand Mishra as saying.

Apart from this, Assam police also surprised a 78-year-old man on his birthday by turning up at his home in Assam's Nagaon town. Kamala Prasad Agarwal is living alone due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown. In order to surprise him, a team of eight police personnel went to his house to celebrate his birthday with sweets, posters, birthday hats and sang for him.
The police team comprising of both male and female officers held placards on their hands which read 'I am your son' and 'I am your daughter' for the old man.
