Despite odds, his dreams have finally got wings. Laxmikanth Reddy, son of an auto driver from Telangana will soon enter the classrooms of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad.
Braving all odds and with the help of his father's support, Reddy, the son of an autorickshaw driver, secured admission to IIM Ahmedabad.
Journey of a big dream
It was Laxmikanth Reddy's father's dream to send his son to the same convent school that he as an autorickshaw driver used to drop children at. Unfortunately, he couldn't do it for a long time because he could not afford to.
Laxmikanth Reddy belongs to a family of farmers from Godavarikhani in Telangana. But due to unpredictable weather and lack of money, Reddy's father took up driving an auto-rickshaw, which he continued for decades to help his son in his education. According to TOI, Reddy¡¯s father left driving due to paralysis a few years ago.
Speaking to TOI, Reddy said that his father had always dreamt of providing him good education at a convent school and wanted Reddy to "make it big" in the corporate world.
Dream of buying a house
He also added, "My parents had stalled the dream of buying a house to fund my education. I would first take up a job and earn enough to provide for them. Afterwards, I want to venture out on my own and realise my dream to become an entrepreneur ¨C that's the purpose of coming here."
Despite several odds, Laxmikanth Reddy did his schooling till the seventh standard at a Telugu medium school. Later, his father arranged money and admitted him to a convent school, where he used to pick up and drop off children. After that Reddy earned a scholarship to study at a junior college and Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology.
After completing his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from the Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology in 2016. However, his journey was not easy because his father fell ill and meet his family expenses, he had to take his community's help and offer tuition classes.
Hard work finally paid off
Reddy's willpower and hard work finally paid off, and he was placed in a software company in Hyderabad. Reddy, along with his friends took up entrepreneurship in 2019 to promote terrace gardens and farming.
An unexpected pandemic broke the dreams of thousands but Reddy¡¯s willpower was strong. He was able to secure admission to IIM Ahmedabad for higher education. "I worked hard in 2020 and cracked CAT in 2021. It was a dream come true," he said.
