TN: Cyclist Brothers Plant 5000 Saplings In 48 Hours With The Aim To Build Green Cover Across The City
With sapling on their bicycles, the brothers planted young trees near temples, government offices and places that locals allowed. They also took the support of the support of MGNREGS workers for digging.
A brothers duo from Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu has done something that is need of the hour: planted trees, and that too 5000 in numbers in just 48 hours.
As the matter of climate change and global warming are becoming a cause of great concern for the world, increasing the green cover of the Earth seems to be one of the plausible solutions.
Speaking of which, the brother duo decided to do something useful and meaningful when the first lockdown was announced in March 2020.
Arun (25) and Srikanth (22), planted two saplings in the backyard of their house. As they saw it grow and turn into beautiful trees, they thought of doing something similar but on a bigger scale.
Then came the idea of planting trees across Tamil Nadu and creating green cover around their district.
The plan was big and they thought meticulously to make it more impactful by engaging more people who shared similar views. It was during the brainstorming that they thought of bringing in another passion to reach their environmental goal: cycling.
Srikanth, an engineering graduate, is also a cyclist enthusiast and decided to cycle around the state with the aim of planting trees. He roped in his brother Arjun and thus came the idea of ¡°Cycling for Recycling¡± trips. The duo since then went on many cycling trips to plant saplings across the state.
¡°We planted nearly 5,000 saplings of 30 kinds of tree in 48 hours, between January 21 and 26. We worked eight hours per day," the newindianexpres.com reported Srikanth saying.
With sapling on their bicycles, the brothers planted young trees near temples, government offices and places that locals allowed. They also took the support of the support of MGNREGS workers for digging.
And for this valuable and innovative initiative, the brothers have been acknowledged and given an appreciation certificate from the India Book of Records for being 'Efficacious Cyclists'.
