The wedding industry is facing a massive setback and many couples have had to postpone their wedding dates indefinitely given the present circumstances.
However, that is not the case for all as two couples decided to change their wedding plans and do something for their community instead. Jyoti Ranjan Swain and Rojalin of Jagatsinghpur district and Ashish Ranjan Swain and Vaishali of Cuttack district opted for a low-key wedding during the Covid-19 crisis and donated the money they had saved up otherwise to the the Chief Minister's relief fund (CMRF).
While Jyoti and Rohalin donated Rs 10,000, Ashish and Vaishali contributed Rs 40,000.
Jyoti Ranjan told Times of India, ¡°We were confused about whether to cancel our wedding or not. Everyone wants their weddings to be grand and lavish, but we decided to keep ours simple. We followed the traditions and married in the presence of only our parents on May 5. We did not invite relatives or villagers, nor did we throw a party or community feast."
The couple even invited the local police station¡¯s inspector incharge Prasant Kumar Majhi and local block development officer Kailash Chandra Behera to their village and gave them a cheque of Rs 10,000 for the CMRF.
Rojalin added, ¡°It may be a small amount, but we did our bit. The money would have been spent on our marriage, but we are happy to donate the government."
The other couple, Ashish and Vaishali also had a simple wedding and did not invite anyone else except their family members. Ashish said, ¡°The marriage was solemnised in the presence of fewer than 20 people amid strict social distancing. We managed to save some money and donated it to the government to help the poor."
Such generosity is rarely seen.
