Pic Of Migrant Child Sleeping On Suitcase Goes Viral, Internet Asks 'What Atmanirbhar Bharat?'
A heartbreaking picture shows the sorry plight of these migrants continuing their torturous journey back home in the searing Indian summer. It shows a little boy resting on a suitcase wheeled by his mother.
Every day thousands of hungry, thirsty and tired migrants are taking the arduous journey back to their villages on foot.
Ever since the lockdown was put in place, thousands of daily-wage labourers have left the cities for the villages where they were born, in reportedly one of the biggest mass movements of people in the country since the partition of India and Pakistan.
For most of the migrants walking the source of income was their daily wage in menial jobs and the lockdown upended their lives in the worst way possible.
Now, a heartbreaking picture shows the sorry plight of these migrants continuing their torturous journey back home in the searing Indian summer. It shows a little boy resting on a suitcase being wheeled by his mother.

The picture immediately struck a chord online and many started comparing it to the photo of three-year-old Syrian boy Aylan Kurdi whose body had washed ashore during the refugee crisis.
Can we help them before it's too late?? pic.twitter.com/fnodxclQP6

Walking with a small group on the Agra highway, the child looks evidently exhausted.
On being asked why the group did not take the many buses started by
the government, the exhausted mother decided to stay quiet.
Here's how people reacted on social media:

No one should be subjected to this. No one. Migrant workers are still walking, with exhausted children in this summer heat. Their pictures are everywhere on social media, in news. What is STILL stopping governments from arranging their transport? https://t.co/fjLaCD960W

Many are struggling to reach home, barely managing to gather a meal, and with no money the current situation only seems to worsen by the minute.
They were travelling to Jhansi from Punjab, which is a distance of 800 kilometres. According to an NDTV report, buses or trains arranged recently are no help for those already on the move. Many find the train tickets too costly or paperwork laborious.
