Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi is at the center of controversy after Sunday¡¯s protest against the Citizen Amendment Act.
Ever since violence broke out, social media channels have been buzzing with news, with a lot of misinformation also being spread.
One such video that has peaked the interests of people online, is the one where Jamia women confronted the Delhi Police. In the video, the women formed a shield and covered their friend, as the cops continued to beat them.
As seen in the video, two cops were armed with heavy wooden
lathis, and another man wearing a red shirt and helmet made people concoct several
theories.

Twitterati widely shared the photo and at first, someone alleged that the guy in the red shirt was a 'BJP goon' because he is wearing a orange/red shirt.
In the following tweets people questioned the Delhi Police asking whether he was part of the Delhi Police team and why he was attacking Jamia students.

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also shared images that showed one man, dressed in an orange/red shirt with a helmet that hid his face, attacking protesters around him.
I watched this & all I could see were a bunch of cowards, hiding behind their uniforms & their lathis, one not even in uniform (is the guy in the red shirt even a cop?). @DelhiPolice should hang their heads in shame. https://t.co/h9zEY17ADs

¡®Has anyone identified this creep in the red shirt? His face
is clearly visible? Is he even a cop? @DelhiPolice you doing something about

Disturbing images shared by #Jamia students, including below an unidentified masked man who students say is an example of those infiltrating their protests. There needs to be an independent assessment of what/who has triggered today's violence, which must be stopped ASAP pic.twitter.com/exk5aKxjCn

Barkha Dutt also shared the picture and wrote 'Disturbing images shared by #Jamia students, including below an unidentified masked man who students say is an example of those infiltrating their protests. There needs to be an independent assessment of what/who has triggered today's violence, which must be stopped ASAP @RizviUzair'.
Some reports clearly state that, the man in the red shirt was a cop
in civil clothes and was lashing out on the students just like the other cops.
Just as a picture started doing the rounds on social media, one Twitter user claimed to have figured who the man 'in red shirt' was.

The tweet above claims, 'the man in Red Tshirt who was seen
hitting the girls with stick during Jamia protest is a ABVP Member
Bharat Sharma,'
Reports are however, conflicting, and there's no clear evidence about the man's identity. At this stage, it's best to stay informed and not to fall for fake messages on social media.
Women students surrounded a fellow male student as police in riot gear beat him with sticks and kicked him. The two women in their 20s - Ayesha Renna & Ladeeda Farzana - are being called the unsung heroes of the protest.

In an interview, Ayesha shared the timeline of the incident, "We were at the back of the group. Around 5.30 pm, we saw people at the front running back and police charging towards us. We went inside the garage of a house and stayed there. There were nine of us girls and one boy. The gate couldn¡¯t be closed because a car was blocking it. A few policemen surrounded us outside and asked us to come out. They said they wouldn¡¯t hit us. We refused but suddenly one of them dragged the boy out and we were pulled out too. They then started hitting all of us with lathis," Ayesha Renna told Indian Express.
Ayesha is a history student and Ladeeda, a BA Arabic student - both of them hail from Kerala. They revealed in an interview with Barkha Dutt that their families are proud of them.
Jamia Millia Islamia University is closed till January 5 owing to Sunday's violent protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The students of JMI and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) had staged a protest at the Police Head Quarters (PHQ) on Sunday after clashes at the Jamia campus.
Nazma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of JMI said that police action against students on Sunday took place because of confusion which occurred when protestors opposing the Citizenship Act entered the campus after clashing with police outside.
Akhtar added that apart from students and staff, guards of the university, had also been injured in the action and it had led to damage of property.
