'I have things that will make China stupider': US influencer's hilarious video amid looming TikTok ban goes viral
Influencer and former model Haley Kalil's hilarious dig at TikTok's ban in the US has gone viral, with netizens sharing hilarious reactions. In the now-viral video, she says she doesn't even have the data that needs to be prevented. In fact, her date will make China look stupider, she jokes.
One week from today (January 14), TikTok may not be operational in the United States because of concerns over user data collection and potential influence operations by the Chinese government. This all started last spring when President Joe Biden signed a law that requires ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, to sell the platform or face a ban due to national security concerns.
Amid the looming ban on the short-video sharing platform that's your go-to app for all things trendy, US influencer Haley Kalil's video has taken the internet by storm. In a hilarious clip addressed to the "Dear US Government," Kalil, who goes by the username haleyybaylee on social media, shares her take on the current situation.

In the now viral Instagram video, the influencer and former model jokingly downplays the concern over China stealing user data. She sarcastically suggests that she's actually giving China her data as a gift and that it's not like they're getting anything important.
She hilariously goes on to claim that her data is "insane" and would only waste China's time or make them "stupider." With a tongue-in-cheek tone, she further implies that her data is more of a nuisance than a national security threat.
"But we have to ban TikTok because China is stealing your data," she begins. Hailey then hilariously questions, "Well, maybe for a second you thought I wanted to give them my data?" before quipping, "Yeah, that's called kindness. They're not stealing anything. They're just accepting the gift of my data, which, by the way, for you to ever think that there's anything important."
She adds, "My data is insane. I don't have national security data. I don't have anything that's gonna give China a one. I have things that will make China stupider and that will waste China's time. So you're welcome, US government."
I sent China my data in an email: Netizens react to the video
Instagram users had hilarious responses to the now-viral video, with one user writing, "I sent China my data in an email." Another user added, "All they know about me is I love hairstyles, faux freckles, and lip syncing."
A third jokingly chimed in, "PLEASE KEEP POSTING ON INSTAGRAM! It's all we have left," while another commenter quipped, "I want to traumatize China with my data." "Only Musk and Zuckerberg are allowed to steal our data, dammit," added one person.
Mr. Beast to the rescue?
Following TikTok's denial of reports that Elon Musk is in talks to buy the app, social media users took to X to share their thoughts. YouTuber MrBeast, too, jokingly offered to buy TikTok himself to prevent a ban, saying, "Okay, fine, I'll buy TikTok so it doesn't get banned."
