Indian Army Day 2020: Here's Everything To Know About The Army Day
The Indian Army today celebrates its 72nd Army Day. The first two chief of the army after Independence were British General KM Cariappa replaced the last British commander General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher. Carippa was elevated to the five-star rank of field marshal in April 1986 in recognition of his exemplary military services. For the first time the women will lead all men contingents and this moment is historic.

General Carippa who was also known as 'Kipper' was only 49 when he took charge of the Army. He served as an army chief for four years and he retired on January 16, 1953.

Partition between India and Pakistan:
During the partition, General Carippa played an important role in reaching a settlement for the division of army between India and Pakistan. Carippa was then a member of the army sub-committee of the forces reconstitution committee.
Carippa was elevated to the five-star rank of field marshal in April 1986, in recognition of his exemplary military services. There are only three military officers who held this five star rank, Carippa, Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

Army Day parade:
The Army Day parade, held at the parade ground Delhi Cantonment, is one of the best highlights of the celebrations. On this day the army chief takes the salute and inspects the parade led by the General Officer Commanding HQs Delhi Area. The other two chiefs will also attend the parade and take salute. This will be done on Republic day as well.
Who all are in it:
India¡¯s first chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat will also be attending the parade this year and take salute. Rawat took charge as Chief of Defence Staff on December 31.
What is new:
A lady officer parade will be taking part in the parade for the first time. A new generation of soldiers led by Captain Taniya Shergil was commissioned into the corps two years ago. This will play an important and crucial role in directing and conducting the parade.
Women parade adjutant to lead all men contingents, On Wednesday for the first time the women will lead all men contingents and this moment is historic. On this very day , Army Chief M M Naravane, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Sigh and Chief of Defence staff General Bipin Rawat are present on the occasion.
