In a shocking incident, an Indonesian man, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, disguised as his wife and boarded a flight. According to a Daily Mail report, he donned a niqab or burqa to cover his face and also carried fake ID cards and a negative PCR report. Unfortunately for him, his disguise did not last long.
The man has been identified only by the initials. 'DW'.
The airplane was flying from Jakarta to Ternate in North Maluku province on Sunday when a flight attendant noticed the man changing his clothes in the washroom.
Since the man's wife had tested negative for COVID-19, he had used her ID and PCR report to board the plane at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport in Jakarta.
"He bought the plane ticket with his wife¡¯s name and brought the identity card, the PCR test result and the vaccination card with his wife¡¯s name. All documents are under his wife¡¯s name," Ternate police chief Aditya Laksimada said.
The man was taken into custody after the flight landed in Ternate and taken for a Covid test which came out positive.
He is currently self-isolating at home and police said the investigation will continue.
"The airport immediately contacted the Ternate City Covid-19 Handling Task Force team to evacuate the man while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and then taking him in an ambulance to his house (in Ternate City) to self-isolate, where he will be supervised by Task Force officers," said Ternate Covid-19 Task Force Operational Head Muhammad Arif Gani.
