In Assam, Nurse Asked Man To Buy A Mask But He Bought A Fish Instead! Here's Why
Click here to find out why a man in assam who was asked to cover his face and buy a mask bought a fish instead of it.
When the times are tough, it is the small things borne out of innocence or love, that bring a smile to your face. This is definitely one such incident.
A villager suffering from an illness visited the government-run Block Primary Health Centre in Northern Assam¡¯s Udalguri town to get medicines, last week.
His face was not covered so the nurse at the medicine counter advised the man to go and buy a mask first. The man left and soon returned with a fish. Why? This is because fish is called ¡®maas¡¯ in Assamese and he must have misheard the word ¡®mask¡¯.
The incident immediately lightened the mood around.
¡°The man was at the medicine counter. The sister there asked him why he had ventured out without wearing a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic. She advised him to buy a mask from a pharmacy and then get his medicines. He left but returned with a fish,¡± TNIE quoted Joint Director of Health, Udalguri, Dr. Tayabur Rahman, as saying.
The man was then gifted a mask by the health worker and asked to take the fish along with him. He reportedly left with the fish and the medicines.
English or Hindi is not the first or even the second language for many Indians. It is natural to get confused between similar sounding words that have different meanings in someone's native language.
We're glad that the response of the people around him was decent, and that he was offered a mask instead of being made fun of and turned away.
