Kerala: 17-Year-Old Delivers Baby Watching Child Birth Videos On YouTube
A 17-year-old girl in Kerala delivered a baby at her residence by watching YouTube videos while her parents remained at home unaware of her pregnancy.
In an extremely shocking incident from Kerala's Malappuram district, a 17-year-old girl delivered a baby boy at home with the help of YouTube videos on October 20. It is said that the girl was allegedly impregnated by her lover.
This entire matter came to light after the baby developed some infections.
The mother of the girl found out and rushed her to a nearby government hospital where she is recovering. The preliminary investigations showed that the girl did not receive any external help during the entire childbirth process and she herself cut the umbilical cord using YouTube videos as a guide.
After they arrived at the hospital, the medical institution informed the Malappuram district child welfare committee (CWC) about the matter who then contacted the police. According to the police, the girl has said that a 21-year-old neighbour had allegedly impregnated her and also advised her to watch YouTube videos to learn how to cut the umbilical cord after delivering the baby.
Police have now arrested the accused under sections of the POCSO Act for impregnating the minor girl. According to the police, the minor and the 21-year-old man were in a relationship, which was known to the family as well.
They both wanted to cover it up. In the third month of pregnancy, the girl had reported stomach ache at a private hospital where she was treated for gastritis.
Reports suggest the girl's parents came to know about the incident on October 22 when they heard the cries of the baby. The police said the girl managed to hide her pregnancy from her visually challenged mother and her father who works as a night watchman.
The mother had assumed that the girl was doing online classes when she would lock herself in the room. The accused man exploited this situation at the girl¡¯s home said the police.
Both the minor and the man had been into a relationship and the families of the two were planning their marriage after she reached the legally permissible age of 18, as per the child welfare committee. The police are thinking of conducting a DNA test of the baby as part of the probe.
