South Korean actor Ju Ji Hoon has become the new internet heartthrob after impressing global K-drama fans as genius trauma surgeon Baek Kang Hyuk in the medical comedy-drama series The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call. The actor has also become a sought-after face of brands, with fans waiting with bated breath for the actor to announce his next project. While he has already been crowned as the best actor of 2025 by fans, would you believe it if we told you he was named the worst actor last year?
Ju Ji Hoon saw an unprecedented rise in his popularity after the success of The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, which edged out season 2 of the globally acclaimed K-drama Squid Game on the Netflix chart to become the top non-English TV series. However, the road to success is not an easy journey for Ju.
According to a Koreaboo report, just weeks ahead of his latest endeavor, the actor was named one of the worst actors of the year at the 8th Raspberry Film Festival.
Ju Ji Hoon was named the third worst actor at the film festival 8th Raspberry Film Festival
The film festival is an annual event where 51 film journalists from prominent Korean media outlets come together to evaluate commercial films released between December of the previous year and November 30 of the current year. In a tongue-in-cheek approach, the voters don't select the best performances, but rather the worst ones, in categories such as acting, film production, and even behavior on set.
In the Worst Acting category, Ju Ji Hoon was placed third for his role in the 2023 film Project Silence, which released in South Korea in July, 2024. The action thriller, also featuring late actor Lee Sun Kyun, featured The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call star as Jo BakĄŠa tow truck driver caught in a dangerous survival situation. While his scenes with the late actor were supposed to bring depth to the narrative, according to the report, critics felt his acting was too 'over-the-top' and 'distracting.'
Ju Ji Hoon's acting reportedly made the film a chore to watch
According to the report, as many as eight critics found the actor's performance to be so underwhelming that it made the film a difficult watch. In fact, some critics were so put off that they considered walking out of the theater. The consensus among them was that the actor's lackluster acting was surprising, given his extensive experience in the industry. Many questioned how someone with his level of expertise could deliver such an unconvincing portrayal.
