India's Got Latent continues to face major outrage over the social media linked to the obscene jokes and remarks made on the latest members-only episode. Comedian Samay Raina and popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahabdia, Apoorva Makhija, and others present on the show face backlash over their offensive jokes on the show. Amid all of this, AIB (All India Bakchod's lawyer)'s lawyer, Karuna Nundy, listed a few things that we learnt after AIB's roast on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
After India's Got Latent's latest episode started facing a major outrage on the internet, AIB's lawyer took to her X (formerly called Twitter) and shared a post, listing out some pointers of what we have learnt after the 'AIB Knockout' event that happened in 2015.
AIB's lawyer, Karuna Nundy, lists 6 points linked to India's Got Latent's episode
Before India's Got Latent's controversy, back in January 2015, an AIB show was uploaded on YouTube that went viral just like Samay Raina's show. After the current incident, many social media users were reminded of a similar controversy that erupted over the 'AIB Knockout', a roast comedy show that featured Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor.
The show was highly criticised by various sections of society for the use of derogatory language; 10 years later, a similar incident has blown up the internet. While amid all the chaos, AIB's lawyer, Karuna Nundy, listed out some pointers, mentioning that the life of a tasteless joke is short and that of a registered FIR is long.
She went on to write, "People file criminal complaints because of a news cycle, for their day in the sun. Same clip watched alone? Most cases the disgust would just pass."
"SC in Ramji Lal Modi should be declared per incuriam or wrong, in light of later decisions (also earlier decisions it failed to follow). Obscenity law's too broad. There's lot of deeply tasteless idiocy, proportionate IT/ civil law's better remedy if needed,¡± she added.
Pointing out how the cognizable offences leave an individual vulnerable to arrest anyway, she noted, "Arrest usually follows news cycles, but FIRs with cognizable offences leave you vulnerable to arrest anyway.¡± Reversing and interim relief is quite urgent in the place where the arrest is likely, and if that fails, then a person needs to go for an anticipatory bail.
As AIB's lawyer after the roast, we learned a few things.
