Life-sized Taylor Swift cake crumbles before it hits the stage
When a life-sized Taylor Swift cake by artist Elza Baldzhiyska suffered major damage en route to Cake International in Birmingham, the showpiece had to be withdrawn from display. Swift's sugary double arrived "battered," bent at the knees, and missing hands, which organizers had planned to add later.
Taylor Swift fans at Cake International are dealing with heartbreak¡ªbut not from a breakup ballad! A life-sized cake of the pop superstar, crafted by artist Elza Baldzhiyska, was supposed to be a showstopper at the event near Birmingham. Unfortunately, Tay-Cake didn¡¯t quite arrive in one piece, and no amount of shake it off vibes could fix the damage. By Friday, Elza had tried every trick in the book to get her sugary Swift back on her frosting feet, but the cake was a goner. Photos showed the edible Taylor looking more ¡°dazed and confused¡± than her usual glam self, with bent knees, as if she were accidentally imitating some Eras Tour dance moves.
Missing body parts of cake
Intended to be a centerpiece at Cake International, the piece arrived in need of more than a touch-up. To add to the drama, poor Taylor was missing her hands! Although the organizers assured everyone that the hands were always supposed to be added on-site, her wrist mishap wasn¡¯t the cause of her wobbly woes.
While fans are understandably disappointed, there's still plenty to get excited about at Cake International's 30th anniversary extravaganza. Visitors can check out other wild works of edible art, including a life-size rendition of Queen Elizabeth I inspired by the portrait at Hatfield House, courtesy of Emma Jayne, the resident artist who famously crafted a King Charles cake during his coronation year. This year, she¡¯s promising a regal touch as her last major piece for the event.
The cake international exhibit
Besides these royal and pop-star treats, the show offers hundreds of stunning cake displays, live demos, and a variety of stalls for those who live for dessert drama. And for the Swifties who had their hopes dashed, Taylor¡¯s real-world takeover isn¡¯t slowing down one bit. She¡¯s geared up to rock the Indianapolis Motor Speedway soon and has partnered with Bell Helmets and Women in Motorsports North America (WIMNA) to power up her concerts there.
The Cake International exhibit might be missing its main Taylor Swift moment, but between Dogpool cake cameos (a dog Deadpool, anyone?) and other fantastical confections, this is still the ultimate treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. And as Taylor would say, the show must go on¡ªjust maybe without the frosting disaster!
