It was the day for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who finally got a chance to lift the trophy after a long wait of 18 years, on Tuesday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The win of the team was a collective emotion of the RCB fans across the globe, including the ex-owner of the franchise and Indian fugitive Vijay Mallya, whose posts about the team's IPL 2025 have now gone viral.
In a viral tweet, Mallya first posted about the franchise on his X (formerly called Twitter), immediately after RCB beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in Ahmedabad.
Mallya lauded the team on their victory and appreciated the support staff, and concluded the message with a popular Kannada phrase, ¡®Ee sala cup namde¡¯ (this year, the cup will be ours).

While the series of posts went on, and in the next post he spoke more about himself and his vision for the franchise. He claimed some credit for selecting Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and "King" Virat Kohli for the squad.

Who is the current owner of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru?
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise was bought by Vijay Mallya, the ex-chairman of Kingfisher Airlines and United Spirits, for $111.6 million, which was the second-highest bid of the IPL.

However, Mallya defaulted on loans in 2016 and no longer owns the RCB. Currently, the team is solely owned by United Spirits. RCB was worth $117 million (1013.17 crore) in 2024, a good 67 per cent growth from the last year.
