'Mean and Unfunny': White Lotus season 3 star Aimee Lou Wood slams SNL skit mocking her teeth with exaggerated portrayal
Aimee Lou Wood slams Saturday Night Live for a "mean and unfunny" skit that mocked her gap teeth in an exaggerated portrayal of her The White Lotus character, Chelsea. The actress has previously expressed frustration over how her appearance often overshadows her work.

Aimee Lou Wood, who recently garnered critical acclaim for her role as Chelsea in Mike White's The White Lotus season 3, isn¡¯t laughing at Saturday Night Live¡¯s latest attempt at parody. The British actress took to Instagram after SNL aired a sketch that not only poked fun at her White Lotus character but did so in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.
SNL mocks Aimee Lou Wood's appearance in their latest parody skit.
The sketch, aired on April 12 and titled The White POTUS, reimagined U.S. political figures as characters on The White Lotus. But while most impressions stayed political, Wood¡¯s character was the only one based on a real actor. To play Chelsea's character, Sarah Sherman was seen using exaggerated prosthetic teeth and an over-the-top accent.
Sarah-as-Chelsea's brief on-screen interaction with Jon Hamm as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sparked intense online debate. The scene featured Kennedy discussing removing fluoride from drinking water, prompting Sherman's character Chelsea, to respond with a comedic remark about fluoride while sporting oversized, bulging front teeth.

¡°I¡¯m not thin-skinned,¡± she wrote on her Instagram Stories. ¡°I actually love being taken the piss out of when it¡¯s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride.¡± ¡°I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth.¡±
¡°I don¡¯t mind caricature,¡± she said. ¡°But the rest of the skit was punching up, and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.¡±
At least get the accent right, seriously,¡± she added. ¡°I respect accuracy, even if it¡¯s mean.¡±
When she first posted her reaction, she added a little disclaimer: ¡°Felt righteous, might delete later.¡± But after her inbox was flooded with thousands of supportive messages, she stuck by her words. She even shared a few screenshots of the messages that meant the most.

"This sums up my view," she concluded in response to a commenter who wrote, ¡°It was a sharp and funny skit¡ªuntil it suddenly veered into 1970s-style misogyny.¡±
SNL apologizes to Aimee Lou Wood
After her post went viral, she shared that SNL had apologized to her but didn¡¯t say who had reached out or what was said. NBC hasn¡¯t commented on it either.
¡°I¡¯ve received apologies from SNL,¡± she shared, though she didn¡¯t go into any details.

'Conversation about my teeth makes me sad': Aimee Lou
In a new interview with GQ on April 8, Aimee Lou Wood opened up about how people¡¯s focus on her gap teeth is starting to get old. While she appreciates that her smile has come to stand for things like confidence and being different, she wishes the conversation stopped there, as it hinders her growth as an actress.
¡°It makes me really happy that it's symbolizing rebellion and freedom, but there's a limit,¡± she told the publication. ¡°The whole conversation is just about my teeth, and it makes me a bit sad because I'm not getting to talk about my work. They think it¡¯s nice because they¡¯re not criticizing.¡±
