The Indian-American's performance in the quarterfinals impressed both the audience and the judges.
Just before her performance, Maya shared, ¡°I¡¯m the first act Metallica have ever given permission to play on AGT. I really want to make Metallica proud.¡±
What did the 11 YO do on the stage?
The young guitarist did not disappoint. She put her own take on the thrash metal classic by combining her classical Indian music background with Metallica's thunderous guitars. She tuned her electric guitar to sound like a sitar, bringing a distinct cultural spin to the metal hymn.
How did the judges react?
Judge Simon Cowell praised Maya's performance, saying, "You're just one of these people who's got a god-given talent. This is something you should do for the rest of your life because you're so amazing at it.
¡°I gotta say a big, big thank you to Metallica for giving you that song. That doesn't happen very often.¡±
After her performance, Maya expressed her gratitude, saying, "It was just great. I'm thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to perform Metallica's 'Master of Puppets' for the first time on AGT. So, thank you Metallica and the Cliff Burton family for making this possible."
When did the artist get eliminated?
Maya got eliminated in the Quarterfinals. She shared a video and wrote, "When I got eliminated in AGT Quarterfinals, I was not sad that my AGT Journey has ended, I was sad that I have to say goodbye to my friends in AGT!"
