Potholes are a dangerous nuisance and in order to help save the lives of civilians, a group of policemen from the Nuzvid sub-division in Andhra Pradesh repaired the road on the Vijayawada-Nuzvid highway when the civic authorities failed to do their job.
The policemen also repaired roads for areas like - Vissannapeta, Mylavaram and Agiripalli. The roads were lathered with potholes which caused civilians a great deal of danger to their lives.
The policemen established teams that visited all the main arterial roads to locate the potholes in them where unpredictable accidents can take place. Accompanied by their station house officers (SHO), the cops marked the areas which come under their respective police station jurisdiction.
Once the cops were done filing a detailed report of the damaged roads, Nuzvid DSP B Srinivasulu and the SP of Krishna district decided to put money together to repair the roads.
The group of policemen managed to fill up 25 potholes in just one day.
¡°Though people raised the bad condition of roads in their villages several times, no response came from the authorities. Moved by their plight, we decided to take up the works immediately wherever necessary,¡± Srinivasulu told The New Indian Express.
The cops added that some of the locals who work in construction also helped them out to repair the roads.
A total of 3,564 accidents have taken place in India due to potholes in 2020, the Centre has informed the Rajya Sabha. The decrease in the number of road accidents from 4,775 and 4,869 in 2019 and 2018 respectively could be attributed to limited traffic movement due to COVID restrictions.
Researchers at the Imperial College of London have developed a new material that could result in self-healing potholes on roads and footpaths. The novel technology makes use of fluorescent 3D sphere-shaped cell cultures that are known as spheroids that are embedded with sensors that can sense if they¡¯ve been damaged. The research was published in the journal Nature Communications.
Potholes are extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal road accidents. The authorities need to pay attention to each and every pothole on roads to avoid any tragic mishap.
