Recently, the internet was up in arms after a Twitter user, identified as Akshat Gupta, shared a video showing himself ripping stickers off a Bengaluru metro. The man filmed himself and the apparent covers beneath which were hidden the Hindi instructions on the city metro rail.

Man Rips Sticker Hiding Hindi Instruction On Bengaluru Metro
In a video, which has since been taken down from his account, Akshat Gupta shared his frustration with the people online that the Hindi subtitles for the instructions on the metro had been covered up. He then went on to rip off the stickers covering up the Hindi instructions.

The video Gupta thought was brave led to the unfurling of Kannada wrath as activists and other Twitter users stepped forward to oppose the actions of the man. One user wrote, "Why so much hate for our Southern languages in North India? Why don't we have Telugu/Kannada/Tamil/Malayalam signboards in your metros?"

Another wrote, ¡°No language in India is superior to other Nor do we have a national language. Then why on earth do metros in Karnataka need instructions in Hindi? Doesn't English suffice for people who don't speak Kannada? Why are we specifically choosing Hindi out of many popularly spoken langs?¡±

I have no hatred for Hindi or North but it is common sense to have regional language and common language English on display for non-localites to follow."

Though there were also people who supported Gupta, ¡°You already have instruction written in kannada but you are hell bent on removing Hindi from there. Let it be, you only read the kannada instructions. As simple as that. Northern States have instructions in 2 languages only, but your metro has instructions in 3 including kannada.¡±

Language Activists Along With Former Kannada Big Boss Contestant Rupesh Rajanna Paid Gupta A Visit
The larger part of the comment section was filled with people opposing the man in the video. The controversy over Hindi imposition reached such a fever pitch that language activists paid a visit to Gupta's office.After a meeting with the activists, Gupta issued an apology video addressing his actions.
Former Kannada Big Boss contestant and social activist Rupesh Rajanna posted images of the group¡¯s meeting with Gupta and wrote on Twitter, "Today we visited the company of Akshat Gupta, who had removed a Hindi sticker in the metro train and justified the imposition of Hindi, and convinced him that Kannadigas will not tolerate the imposition of Hindi."

Afterward, in his apology, Gupta said, ¡°Hi all Kannadigas, it's by mistake I removed the stickers, so I am sorry for it. I am also against Hindi imposed on regional language, so I respect my karma bhoomi. Please accept my apology.¡±
