The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup has left all Indian fans hopeful for the upcoming matches the team is set to play. However, there is nothing more exhilarating than the on-field rivalry between India and Pakistan.
One championship after another, the two teams have kept cricket fanatics gripped to their screens. In 2023 too, fans are gearing up to cheer their hearts out for the two teams during the upcoming match on October 14.
While we wait for yet another historical clash between the Titans, here are the five most iconic India versus Pakistan moments ¨C
1. 1996 WC, Bangalore - Venkatesh Has The Last Laugh
Back in the day when the India versus Pakistan rivalry was pricklier than today¡¯s chummy playfulness between the two teams, players did not shy away from provoking each other on the field.
During the 1996 World Cup match in Bangalore, India¡¯s Venkatesh Prasad owned Pakistan¡¯s Amer Sohail. Chasing a 288 total, Pakistan looked like they had the upper hand on India. When Sohail went ahead and provoked Venkatesh by gesturing towards the boundary after hitting a four.
After Sohail mocked Venkatesh, the Indian bowler won the bout in style by scoring a clean bolt with his very next delivery. Venkatesh returned the favour by pointing toward the dressing room after he shattered Sohail¡¯s stump.
Happy Birthday Venkatesh Prasad

2. 2015 WC, Adelaide - Kohlie Powers Through
Before King Kohli dared to, no other Indian batter had ever scored a century against Pakistan in a World Cup match. In 2015, Virat Kohli proved he was a beast on the field by scoring India¡¯s first World Cup century against Pakistan.
Playing in Australia, the batter entered the field after the team had lost 2 initial wickets. The young batsman scored 107 off 126 balls which gave India a 76-run win.
3. 1999 Test Series, Chennai - Indian Crowd Cheers For Pakistan
Chennai fans witnessed the first of the three test match series between India and Pakistan in 1999. During the fourth innings of the match, India faced a daunting score of 82/5. However, not all hope was lost as a young 25-year-old Tendulkar was still manning the stumps.
He would go on to score one of his most memorable Test centuries. By the time Sachin was done, India was a mere 17 runs away from a win with 3 wickets to spare. However, Pakistan astonished spectators in Chennai by turning around the lost game and wrapping up the Indian line-up with just four more runs on the scoreboard.
The audience at the Chennai stadium gave the rival team a standing ovation for their unwavering determination and eventual win in the match.
4. 1996 WC, Bangalore - Ajay Jadeja Towers Over Waqar Younis
This 1996 World Cup innings always comes to mind when we think of Ajay Jadeja¡¯s career-defining moments. Facing the best bowler of the time, Waqar Younis, Jadeja overcame every batsman¡¯s nightmare.
Jadeja left people speechless after he scored 45 runs on just 25 balls at a strike rate of 180, note that this was not a T20I match. While batting against Younis, Jadeja scored an astonishing sum of 23 runs in just five balls before getting dismissed on the sixth ball.
5. 1999 Test Series, Delhi - Anil Kumble¡¯s 10 On 10 Performance
Following a close call against Pakistan in Chennai, India was looking forward to redemption during the second Test in Delhi. One man ended up owning the Pakistani team with his incredible bowling and winning the match for India.
Anil Kumble took a whopping 10 wickets for 74 runs and led India to a 212-run victory. With his stellar performance, Kumble became the second bowler after English cricketer Jim Laker to take all ten wickets in a match.
