Deepinder Goyal offers job to Bengaluru-based Product Manager after his suggestions for Zomato's Food Rescue feature
Zomato launched a "Food Rescue" feature allowing nearby customers to buy cancelled meal orders at a discount to reduce food waste. CEO Deepinder Goyal shared the initiative on X, which sparked mixed reactions.
Zomato just unveiled a new service allowing customers to purchase cancelled meal orders at a discount. A Bengaluru man's recommendations for improving the feature impressed Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal so much that he invited the man to apply for a position. The unusual exchange occurred on X (previously Twitter), where Goyal posted a comprehensive thread about the order cancellation option, which he said was developed to combat food waste.

We don't encourage order cancellation at Zomato, because it leads to a tremendous amount of food wastage.

Inspite of stringent policies, and and a no-refund policy for cancellations, more than 4 lakh perfectly good orders get canceled on Zomato, for various reasons by customers.¡ pic.twitter.com/fGFQQNgzGJ
In an X post, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal stated that "more than 4 lakh perfectly good orders get cancelled on Zomato" despite the company's no-refund policy.
Under the new ¡°Food Rescue¡± feature, cancelled orders will be made available for purchase to nearby customers. ¡°Cancelled orders will now pop up for nearby customers, who can grab them at an unbeatable price, in their original untampered packaging, and receive them in just minutes,¡± Goyal explained.
He stated that Zomato would not retain any earnings "except the required government taxes" from the sale of these orders.
The post revealing the new feature sparked numerous doubts among Zomato users. While some argued that selling rejected orders was risky, despite Zomato's assurances of tamper-proof packaging, others welcomed the opportunity to get food at a discount.

1.should not be applicable to COD
2.Cancellation should not be allowed if the delivery reaches 500 m to the delivery point
3.Chances of 2 idiots sharing meals ordering and cancelling at the same time getting a discount place
4.< two cancellations are allowed/ month.
However, an X user named Bhanu suggested to Zomato how to avoid exploitation of the tool. Bhanu, a Bengaluru resident, believes the Food Rescue option should not be accessible for cash-on-delivery orders. Furthermore, Zomato clients should not be able to cancel their orders if the delivery partner is within 500 yards of their location.
After noticing these mindful suggestions, Goyal wrote, "All this and more already in place. Good thinking, btw. Who are you and what do you do? Would love to know you more, and see if we can work together? :) DM me please if you wanna chat more."
