Six persons were hurt and one died at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1 when a portion of the forecourt roof collapsed early Friday. The collapse happened after a night of heavy rain in the national capital.

All flights out of Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 were suspended on Friday morning, causing widespread disruption to travel arrangements. Meanwhile, other parts of the city were flooded after a night of thunderstorms and rain.

According to news agency PTI, the ceiling collapse at Delhi Airport Terminal 1 occurred less than four months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the opening of an overhaul to the terminal, which will allow it to handle 40 million passengers per year, up from 17 million before.
According to Airports Council International, Delhi Airport handled 72 million passengers in 2023, making it one of the world's busiest. Terminals 1 and 2 serve domestic travellers, while Terminal 3 handles all foreign passengers.
