In a world-first, Chinese drone manufacturer DJI successfully delivered three oxygen tanks on Mount Everest using its DJI FlyCart 30 drone, managing to pull off the operation at an eye-watering altitude of 5,000 metres. In its journey from Everest¡¯s Base Camp to Camp 1, the drone supplied three oxygen cylinders and additional supplies. Every aspect, from wind resistance to low-temperature endurance and weight capacity, was thoroughly evaluated to ensure the success of the delivery.
Christina Zhang, DJI¡¯s senior corporate strategy director told ABC News, ¡°The ability to safely transport equipment, supplies, and waste by drone has the potential to revolutionise Everest mountaineering logistics, facilitate trash cleanup efforts, and improve safety for all involved.¡±

Imagine being at 8,000 metres without oxygen. Then imagine lugging oxygen in a tank as you slowly snake your way around gorges and crevices on the mountain all the while mentally calculating each breath you take and pacing yourself so you don't waste the precious resource. There is a group of people who believe that oxygen cylinders are easily corrupted and that a single drop of water can make them useless. That coupled with the fact that the regulators sometimes freeze leaving the climber clueless about their oxygen supply only makes a bad situation worse. Considering all this, a drone being able to deliver oxygen cylinders from Base Camp to Camp 1 is a milestone moment.
Not only that. In the footage, shared by ABC News on their official Instagram page, the same FlyCart 30 drone was deployed to also tackle the matter of waste management on the world's tallest peak.
The drone efficiently transported trash from Camp 1, located at an altitude of 5,364 meters, back to Base Camp. Before the mission, DJI subjected its FlyCart 30 drone to rigorous testing to ensure its resilience in Everest's extreme conditions, ABC News reported.
More importantly, this achievement will also lessen the burden on sherpas who often put their lives on the line by scaling the peak.
