Elon Musk complains about seeing Kamala Harris posts on X, blames platform's algorithm: 'We are not smart enough'
Elon Musk recently complained on X about seeing too many posts by Kamala Harris, blaming the platform's algorithm for misinterpreting content engagement. This sparked demands for a 'dislike' button on X which might help improve filtering.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of X, recently took to the social media platform to share a complaint: he's frustrated with seeing too many posts by Kamala Harris on his own platform. Musk blames this issue on X's current lack of "smartness," calling out the platform he owns for not filtering content as effectively as he'd like.
Check out Musk's post about "X's algorithm" below:
Why do I keep seeing posts from Kamala?!

Musk shared his frustration about the platform's algorithm, which mistakenly assumes that if you forward a post, you love it.
He explained, "Unfortunately, if the actual reason you forwarded the content to friends was because you were outraged by it, we are currently not smart enough to realize that."
True.

I was just with some friends who were saying that their feed had become more toxic lately.
Turns out they had been sharing examples of toxic posts with each other, which makes the algorithm think you love toxic posts. https://t.co/90ldsgPmrz
In response to a comment which why asks they were seeing posts from Kamala Harris, Musk admitted, "I see them too (sigh). It's because I replied to some of her posts."

Elon Musk has openly endorsed Donald Trump for the U.S. Presidential election in November 2024, opposing the Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
How did people react?
Musk's post on X criticising the platform's algorithm led to a call for a 'dislike' button, with one user suggesting, "If Likes are hidden, we can hide Dislikes, but at least the algorithm can assume that if we share something but dislike it, then we don't like it and we don't have to see more."
Another agreed, saying, "Maybe give us a downvote option, but you don't have to display how many a post got."
Given Musk's hands-on approach, a 'dislike' button on X might not be far off.
Meanwhile, Musk has been caught referring to his rebranded X as Twitter, showing that old habits die hard.
It seems even the platform's creator struggles with letting go of its legacy name!
