Developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Covaxin is an inactivated vaccine and is currently undergoing clinical trials across the country.
The Health Ministry said that there are two indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccines in the country. Clinical trials for phase 1 and 2 of both the candidates have begun.
PGIMS Rohtak is one of the 12 medical institutes where Covaxin trials are being conducted in the country. The first phases of human clinical trials of Covaxin will include at least 375 healthy individuals.

Covaxin was first administered to the 26-year-old and two other participants at PGIMS Rohtak on July 17, reported Times of India. Last week, the vaccine received a go-ahead for the second phase after it showed no adverse effect.
Dr Savita Verma, the principal investigator of the vaccine trial team, had said that results from the first part of phase 1 trial of Covaxin were encouraging.
On Thursday, the 26-year-old¡¯s father, a government employee, joined him and other volunteers who were vaccinated with Covaxin in Rohtak. The father-son duo belong to a family of blood donors.
¡°It is impressive that a man and his father have joined the human trials because of their dedication for the society and the country,¡± Dr Dhurva Chaudhry, Haryana nodal officer for COVID-19.

A total of 66 people have received the first dose of Covaxin at PGIMS Rohtak and the medical institute aims to get 75 more volunteers after which the phase 2 trial will be conducted.
The first three volunteers, including the 26-year-old man, who were administered Covaxin on July 17 will receive their second dose of vaccine today, July 31.
