Gujarat: People Violating Face Mask Rules Will Do Community Service At COVID-Care Centres

Face masks have become a crucial part of our everyday life due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Stepping outside in public without wearing one is considered unwise - with good reason - and moreover, it goes against safety protocols set in place by healthcare authorities.

Experts have, time and again, stressed on the importance of wearing a face mask to prevent getting infected or infecting someone else with the novel coronavirus. Despite all of that, there are people, not just in India, but all across the world, who believe in an 'anti-mask' agenda.

In a bid to ensure that people follow the rules and wear face masks, the Gujarat High Court directed the state government to introduce a new policy which will penalise all those caught not wearing face masks, with community service at any COVID-care centre

In its order, the court stated that violators would have to do at least four to five hours of non-medical duty at any COVID-care centre for five to fifteen days - whatever the authorities deem appropriate.

The punishment will include them having to do services like cleaning, housekeeping, cooking, helping, serving, preparation of the record, data-keeping, etc, reported India Today.

The community service will come with a fine, and the responsibilities of the violator will be determined as per their age, qualification and gender.

A status report regarding compliance will be submitted by the government on December 24.
