With train and bus services slowly limping back, hundreds of migrants are trying their best to get back to their homes, the situation still remains grim in many parts. Migrants travelling for days have reportedly been struggling with the lack of food, water and shelter. The scorching summer heat has only exacerbated the problem.
And it has evidently taken a massive toll on their health and one disturbing video exposes just how bad the situation is for them. The video now being widely circulated online allegedly shows a woman lying dead at a railway station while her toddler plays next to her, even trying to wake her up.

The video that first surfaced on Twitter was also shared by Sanjay Yadav, Leader of Opposition-Bihar Assembly, Social & Political Scientist, who wrote: "The little child does not know that the sheet he is playing with is the shroud of a mother who is dead. This mother died due to being hungry and thirsty in the train for 4 days. Who is responsible for these deaths in trains? Strong questions should be asked!"
According to reports, the video is from a station in Muzaffarpur in Bihar, where the 23-year-old woman had arrived in a special train for migrants.
Reports state that the woman, according to her family, had been unwell on the train because of the lack of food and water. She had taken a train from Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Saturday. On Monday, shortly before the train rolled into Muzaffarpur, she collapsed.
Her body was laid out on the station platform where her child frantically tried to wake her up before
an older child dragged him away. The Railways Ministry says the woman had been unwell when she got on the train and the family got off at Muzaffarpur station when she died.
The woman was heading to Katihar with her sister, sister's husband and two children said the ministry, reports NDTV.
According to the railways, 80 per cent of total Shramik special trains are destined for various destinations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. A 10-month-old boy suffering from fever and breathing difficulties on board a Shramik Special train died in Uttar Pradesh. The family alleged that the railways did not arrange for a doctor.
In another instance, a 45-year-old migrant worker aboard the Shramik Express train died. His nephew, who was accompanying him, alleged that the victim had not eaten anything in the last 60 hours.
The humanitarian crisis still unfolding on highways and railway platforms as entire families are walking hundreds of kilometres. Many are dying because of intense heat, dehydration, hunger and accidents.
