A large number of them are migrant workers, those employed everywhere from farms to factories and construction units. The sudden lockdown announcement meant that their workplaces were shut and they had nowhere to go. Indian Railways has now resumed passenger train operations and with it has come a chance for the migrant workers to go back home. The new train services however are different from before. The Railways has put in place new rules that passengers have to follow. There will be no linen provided, the food shall be packaged only and hand-sanitisers will be available. Also passengers must reach the station at least 90 minutes before the scheduled time of departure, as per a PTI report. But in these pictures thousands of people were seen in many railway stations, seemingly unbothered by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
