Indian Railways Rolls Out Indigenously Manufactured Tejas Express Locomotives
Indian Railways on Friday (October 2) flagged off the first batch of indigenously manufactured Tejas Express locomotives for push-pull operations. The Tejas Express locomotives were unveiled in Asansol Railway station.
In another ¡®Atmanirbhar Bharat¡¯ initiative, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works located in West Bengal has rolled out its first batch of Tejas Express locomotives.
The engine of Tejas Express is equipped with new technology and is manufactured in West Bengal's Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW). Praveen Kumar Mishra, the General manager of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, flagged off the Tejas Express locomotives.
According to reports, the 'push-pull' technology will help the passenger electric locomotives to reduce air drags at higher speed for more energy efficiency, and will be dynamically stable during high-speed operations.
Praveen Kumar Mishra, General Manager flagged off these Tejas Express locos from CLW sidings in presence of senior officers and staff of CLW.

These two WAP-5(35012-35013) type electric locomotives are of 6000 HP capacity each, and both are equipped with latest IGBT-based propulsion system capable of running at 160 kmph.

Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, called it a major achievement under the 'Make in India' initiative. Taking to microblogging site Twitter, he wrote, 'Yet another significant push to PM @NarendraModi ji's 'Make in India' & Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives! Railways unveils the first batch of indigenously manufactured Tejas Express locos for 'push-pull' operations. These are highly advanced & energy-efficient locos.'

These are noise-free, pollution-free and environmental friendly green locomotives which are high on energy efficiency and low on maintenance.
The composite converters provided in these locos will directly supply power to the coaches and pantry cars, thus eliminating the need for a separate diesel-powered generator cars.
This arrangement will reduce the travelling time of Rajdhani Express between Howrah and New Delhi by 90 minutes. These locomotives shall be utilized to haul the prestigious & premium express passenger trains in the Indian Railways, state reports.
