Bank Holidays July 2022: There Are 16 Bank Holidays This Month

The month of July is full of festivals and celebrations across the country. Many private and public sector banks will remain closed next month due to additional bank holidays. Banks will be shut for 16 days in July 2022 Including second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines Banks will be closed on all public holidays with some regional holidays depending on the particular state. Regional holidays are decided by respective state governments.

The month of July observes 16 bank holidays and the first holiday starts from Ratha Yatra on 1st July and other holidays like Id-Ul-Ad'ha (Bakrid) on 9th July and Bhanu Jayanti on 13th July banks will be observed holidays which are applicable to all banks in India except some states.

Bank holidays in July 2022:

People will not face any problems in bank-related work as holidays are not frequent or at short intervals and ATMs, cash deposits, online banking, mobile banking will continue to function. These holidays may vary from state to state as holidays are determined keeping in view the local festivals.

According to RBI guidelines, banks are closed on Sundays as well as on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, RBI has declared holidays on July 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16 and 26. Apart from this, there are four Sundays in the month and also on the second and fourth Saturdays.

According to the Reserve Bank's calendar, apart from the weekend, there are 10 bank holidays in July month. The central government has divided the holidays into three categories, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. In these three categories ¨C Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act, and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks¡¯ Closing of Accounts.

1. July 1 (Friday): Ratha Yatra (Odisha)

Banks remain closed in Odisha on the occasion of Ratha Yatra on 1 July 2022, Friday. Rath Yatra or Car Festival Puri is the most popular and awaited Hindu festival that commences on Friday, 1 July 2022 and Return Car Festival or 'Bahuda Jatra' Bahuda yatra falls on Saturday, 9 July 2022. Hundreds of devotees & volunteers comprise the construction and decoration of the Raths or Chariot. Lord Jagannath's chariot, Balabhadra¡¯s chariot, Subhadra's chariot are the highlights of the entire Yatra are pulled by strings.

2. July 3 (Sunday) - Weekend Bank Holiday

Banks across the country remain closed on their weekly off on Sunday, 3 July 2022.

3. July 5 (Tuesday) - Guru Hargobind Ji¡¯s Birthday (Jammu & Kashmir)

Banks remain closed in Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Guru Hargobind Ji birth anniversary. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was the sixth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism who was born 5th July 1595 to Mata Ganga Ji and Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji and became the guru after following in the footsteps of his father. According to the chronicles, Guru Arjan Sahib Ji and Mata Ganga Ji did not have a child for a long time, until Mata Ganga Ji sought the blessings of Baba Budha Ji for an offspring. Budha Ji told her that she would give birth - to an extraordinarily chivalrous son. Shortly after that Guru Hargobind Ji was born.

4. July 6 (Wednesday) - MHIP Day (Mizoram)

Banks will be closed in Mizoram on the occasion of Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) Day. The MHIP is one of the biggest voluntary organisations in Mizoram and the only female-orientated NGO which was established on July 6th 1974.

5. July 7 (Thursday): Kharchi Puja (Tripura)

Banks will be closed in Tripura on the occasion of Kharchi Puja on Thursday, 7 July 2022. Kharchi Puja is an important festival that is worshipped and celebrated by the Tripuri community. On the occasion, all the 14 deities are carried to the river Saidra while chanting the verses and then bathed in the holy water. After returning to the temple, these idols are decorated with vermillion and flowers. The festival is celebrated for 7 days by offering flowers, fruits, and more by devotees.

6. July 9 (Saturday): Id-Ul-Ad'ha (Bakrid)/ Second Saturday

All the banks across the country remain closed on the second Saturday of the month on 9 July 2022. Also, this day is very important for all the Muslims around the world as they celebrate Id-Ul-Ad'ha (Bakrid) by the sacrificial killing of sheep, goats, cows and camels to commemorate Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command.

7. July 10 (Sunday) - Weekend Bank Holiday

Banks across the country remain closed on their weekly off on Sunday, 10 July 2022.

8. July 11 (Monday): Eid-ul-Azha (Jammu and Kashmir)

Banks remain closed in Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha on Monday, 11 July 2022. This festival is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a commemoration of Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice everything for God.

9. July 13 (Wednesday): Bhanu Jayanti (Sikkim)

Banks will be closed in Sikkim on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti on Wednesday, 13 July 2022. Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated in the Sikkim to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya Adikavi who was a Nepali poet, writer and translator who translated the epic Ramayana from Sanskrit into Nepali.

10. July 14 (Thursday): Ben Dienkhlam (Meghalaya)

Banks remain shut in Meghalaya on the occasion of Ben Dienkhlam on Thursday, 14 July 2022. Behdienkhlam Festival is the most celebrated Cultural festival among the Pnars. Behdeinkhlam, meaning driving away evil spirits, is celebrated annually in July after the sowing period, the most important dance festival of the Jaintia tribes. This festival Tour is also an invocation to God, seeking his blessings for a bumper harvest. The festival held at Jowai is one of the most well-known and recreational festivals in Meghalaya.

11. July 16 (Saturday): Harela (Uttarakhand)

Banks will be closed in Uttarakhand on the occasion of Harela on Saturday, 16 July 2022. Harela is a festival of greenery, peace, prosperity, and environmental conservation that is celebrated across the Uttarakhand especially in the Kumaun region in the month of Shravan (the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar) to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

12. July 17 (Sunday) - Weekend Bank Holiday

Banks across the country remain closed on their weekly off on Sunday, 17 July 2022.

13. July 23 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday

All the banks in the country remain closed on the fourth Saturday of the month on 23 July 2022.

14. July 24 (Sunday) - Weekend Bank Holiday

Banks across the country remain closed on their weekly off on Sunday, 24 July 2022.

15. July 26 (Tuesday): Ker Puja (Tripura)

Banks remain closed in Tripura on the occasion of Ker Puja on Tuesday, 26 July 2022. The festival takes place two weeks after Kharchi Puja and honours Ker, a guardian god. During Ker Puja, entrances to Agartala, the capital of Tripura, are closed to create a protected area. People are not allowed to light fires, dance, sing or even wear shoes. Anyone who breaks these restrictions is made to pay a fine and the puja starts again.

16. July 31 (Sunday) - Weekend Bank Holiday

Banks across the country remain closed on their weekly off on Sunday, 31 July 2022.
