Municipal Authorities Come Up With 'Return Gift' For Homes That Dump Garbage On The Roads
In order to teach some of these people a lesson, the coastal city of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh decided that it will not take it anymore and has come up with the perfect way to punish the ones who violate the rules.
Not littering public places is something we seem to have a hard time understanding, and basic civic sense almost never seems to prevail. People throw garbage everywhere they go, even outside their own homes and think it is okay.
News flash: It's not!
While a few understand that this is not the way to live, majority think as long as it is not inside their homes, it's not their job to clean it up.

The city authorities came up with the 'Return Gift' initiative. In it, a household that dumps the garbage on the road instead of handing it to the assigned sanitary workers, are given back the same at their doorstep. The purpose of this practice was to make such violators realize their mistake, so they do not repeat it again.

Kakinada Municipal Corporation's commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, was the brain behind this initiative. The city authority had employed around 900 sanitary workers to collect garbage from homes. Due to many not complying with the rules even after many awareness drives, Pundkar had to resort to this.
