Kerala Man Succumbs To Burn Injuries After Trying To Set Woman Who He Wanted To Marry, On Fire

Women's safety is a huge problem not just in India but around the world. This shocking incident from Kerala has resulted in a man's death who tried to set a woman on fire after he failed to impress her family members to marry her.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the 42-year-old man allegedly tried to set on fire a woman he wanted to marry.

The incident took place at the woman's house in Jathiyeri near Nadapuram. The report added that the man belongs to Valayam in Nadapuram. The police said that the man named Ratnesh wanted to marry the woman but her relatives opposed this and fixed her marriage with somebody else.

The incident occurred at the woman's house in the early hours today. Ratnesh, an electrician, climbed the bedroom of the woman on the first floor of her house using a ladder around 2.30 am and tried to set her on fire.

However, his plan failed and he set himself ablaze leading to his death, said the report.

The woman, her brother and sister-in-law have sustained minor injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital. The woman was lucky to survive this attack.

Last month, a man from Telangana allegedly set a woman on fire for refusing his advances. According to reports, the woman before dying said that the man set her on fire on Friday night after she rejected him and his advances. The incident took place at an isolated place in the Narayanpet district of Telangana.

According to the victim's family, the accused was a labourer who was known to the victim and the woman used to live with her father, stepmother and disabled half-brother in Hyderabad. The victim's father had approached the police a week before the devastating incident took place to report that she had been missing.

Another similar incident happened last year when a 23-year-old man allegedly set himself and the woman whom he loved on fire inside a car after she rejected his marriage proposal.

The couple was found charred to death inside the burnt car outside Mamballi village. The man and woman were classmates, and after rejecting several proposal attempts by him, the woman lost her life. He lured her under the guise of dropping her home and set both of them on fire instead.

Crimes against women are a prominent evil in our society and mostly the attackers are men. Refusing to marry a man has resulted in a lot of attacks on women like setting them on fire or throwing acid on them which has either to their demise or a life of pain and suffering.
