Operation Blue Star
was an Indian Armed Forces operation between 1 and 10 June 1984 to remove Damdami Taksal leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers from the buildings of the Golden Temple, the holiest site of Sikhism, in Amritsar, Punjab, India.
Satyendranath Tagore, the first Indian to join the Indian Civil Service, was born
Satyendranath Tagore was born on 1 June 1842. He was the first Indian to clear the civil service examination. Satyendranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore's elder brother, was the first Indian to qualify for the Civil Services Examination in 1864.
In 1862, Satyendranath Tagore travelled from India to England to study for the exam. In 1863, he was chosen for the civil service, and after finishing his education in England, he returned to India in 1864. He was India's first Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. After that, he was assigned to the Bombay Presidency, and then to Ahmedabad City after a few months.
The Untouchability (Offences) Act was introduced
The Untouchability (Offences) Act was introduced in Lok Sabha on 8th May 1955 and passed in both houses. The act came into force on 1st June 1955. On 2nd September, 1976 the act was amended and renamed as The Protection of Civil Rights Act. The act extends to the whole of India.
