Sign Language Interpreter Rocks Out At Lollapalooza India 2023 In Viral Video

Lollapalooza, one of the biggest music festivals in the world, made its first appearance in India this year around the 28th and 29th of January. The historic festival had previously left quite a mark in Chicago, Paris, Berlin, and many more iconic cities.

For its first visit, the festival landed in the film capital of India, Mumbai. Lollapalooza hit all the right notes with Indian music fans, from having The Imagine Dragons as the headliner to hosting K-pop megastar Jackson Wang.

Amid the already viral stages from musicians at the festival, people caught onto a small detail that made all the right upgrades to the show. Rishi Darda, a Twitter user, shared a video clip that received a lot of attention on the microblogging site.

Darda shared that the festival organisers had a sign language interpreter standing close to the stage for the people with hearing ailments. The user wrote in his caption, "At the #LollapaloozaIndia concert in Mumbai - I saw something truly special: On the corner of the stage stood a sign language expert, interpreting lyrics for deaf & hard of hearing audience. Heartwarming to see the #inclusivity; small powerful gesture. Full marks to @bookmyshow."

The NGO Interpreters Came Out During The Yellow Diary's Show

The signing interpreter made an appearance during the set performed by The Yellow Diary at the Budx stage on the first day of Lollapalooza. In the clip, the person filming the interpreters also captured the main stage, where The Imagine Dragons were performing. Two different volunteers from an NGO were present at the show to interpret the rocking lyrics as well as the music of the band¡¯s songs. Something of the sort is often practised by western artists, where sign language interpreters also perform the songs alongside the stars for the non-hearing community that wants to enjoy their favourite artists at such concerts.

The festival's inclusive initiative received widespread praise on the internet. One user praised the decision and added that another small gesture was appreciated by the audience: "Another small gesture - they distributed small water bottles in between the Imagine Dragons concert so that people don¡¯t remain thirsty."
