Man claims to be conned by 'fake cops' in Bengaluru for Rs 3000: 'I've been made a big fool'
A Bengaluru man shared on Reddit how he was swindled out of Rs 3000 by men pretending to be police officers. The victim was stopped by a uniformed cop and two plainclothes men, who questioned him, distracted him by checking his phone, and stole Rs 3000 from his wallet.

The victim elaborated the scene in a lengthy Reddit post, that has now gone viral. Here's what happened.

A Reddit user, Wooden-Border6733, elaborated in a descriptive post how "fake cops" looted him for Rs 3000.
The user writes, "I was coming home from a friend's house near Kasturi Nagar when I was stopped suddenly, one guy was in police uniform and then there were two guys in plain clothes who waved me down. They looked to be cops but in mufti. I stopped and parked my bike, and one of them grabbed my keys before I knew it. They all looked very senior in their 50s and pretty overweight. The uniformed cop took his bike, spoke something in Kannada to the others and left right after and I was dealing with the 2 other guys."
The cope started with questions like, "Where are you coming from? Where do you live? Do you drink or smoke?¡±
The police personnel then asked to check the man's phone. "While one cop was asking me more questions while going through my phone, the other was rummaging through my wallet, jotting down my details like it was some kind of interrogation - took down all personal details about me through our conversation. He then started asking about the photos on it, keeping me distracted for what felt like forever. ¡°Nice pics you¡¯ve got here,¡± he said, ¡°Who¡¯s this? Your girlfriend?¡± I couldn¡¯t help but smile a little. ¡°Yeah, that¡¯s her,¡± I said, trying to sound casual, but inside, I was panicking. He called us a cute couple, looked at me and laughed - then patted my face and said ¡°You've been a good boy. Since you¡¯ve been so obedient and cooperative, we¡¯re going to let you go.¡± They let me go but warned me to head home quickly and avoid any trouble."
When the man got home he realised that money was missing from his wallet. "All the 500 rupee notes¡ªaround 3000 rupees¡ªwere missing. I kept checking through the wallet and bags, feeling panic set in. They must have taken my money while I was distracted," the man claims.
How did people on the internet react?
Many people advised the user on what he could do next, while others wondered about the weird interaction. Here's what people wrote in the comments.
