Man Sold His Only Cow To Buy Smartphone For Children So They Could Attend Online Classes
A man from Himachal Pradesh to sell his only cow who was also his sole source of income. He took this desperate step in order to buy a mobile phone for his two children so that they could attend their online classes.
The present coronavirus-induced lockdown has changed everyone's lives. For those who live hand-to-mouth, the last few months have probably been the most difficult time of their lives.
The forced conditions of this pandemic has pushed a man from Himachal Pradesh to sell his only cow who was also his sole source of income. He took this desperate step in order to buy a mobile phone for his two children so that they could attend online classes.

Since schools and colleges are shut down, educational institutions have resorted to conducting classes online. However, there is a severe lack of resources in majority of underprivileged Indian households and not everyone has the means to attend those classes. Lack of devices, internet connection and even power supply are major obstacles in these people's lives.
The man named Kuldip Kumar is from Jwalamukhi in Kangra district. He said that once the schools shut down in March both his children, one in class IV and another in class II, faced difficulty attending online classes since they didn't have a smartphone.

Feeling helpless due to the situation, Kuldip reached out to his children's teachers who informed him that in order for them to continue their studies, he needs to buy them a smartphone. He approached many banks and money lenders for a loan of Rs 6,000 but in vain since all of them turned him down.
Left with no other option, Kuldip sold his cow for Rs 6,000, reported Tribune. With that money, he bought a smartphone for his children.

Kuldip, along with his wife and two kids live in a mud house in Jwalamukhi. He also approached the panchayat a few times but no one helped him.

On the other hand, Jwalamukhi MLA Ramesh Dhawala said that he had directed the BDO and the SDM to provide financial help to Kuldip Kumar on an urgent basis.
