Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Says He Was Hit By A Guard On His Visit To Safdarjung Hospital
Mandaviya said that on his surprise visit as a general patient when tried to sit at a bench, he was chided and hit by a security guard and was asked not to sit there.
Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently revealed that he visited Safdarjung hospital disguised as a general patient and that he was hit by a security guard at the gate. He said he visited the hospital to know the real condition of the hospital.
His revelation came during the inauguration of four health facilities at Safdarjung Hospital on Thursday, Jagran.com reported.
Speaking at the function, Mandaviya said that on his surprise visit as a general patient when tried to sit at a bench, he was chided and hit by a security guard and was asked not to sit there.
He also said that he noticed several patients facing problems in getting stretchers and other medical assistance at the hospital. He gave an example of a 75-year-old woman who was pleading with the guards to get a stretcher for her son but couldn't find one.
Not pleased with the guard¡¯s behaviour, he asked why even after 1500 guards stationed at the hospital, not a single guard helped the elderly woman.
Mandaviya said he informed about the incident to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who too got upset after hearing it and asked whether the guard was suspended or not?. On which Mandaviya said that he wasn't suspended as he is trying to improve the system and not just one person.
Reminding paramedics and other staff of their role, Mandaviya said that hospital and medical staff are the two sides of the same coin and they should work as a team.
He appreciated the work done by the doctors in the treatment of corona patients.
Mandaviya inaugurated four facilities including a new oxygen plant at Safdarjung Hospital, a temporary hospital prepared for the treatment of coronavirus patients. A 44-bed makeshift hospital has been built to deal with the third wave of Corona.
