The $250M Penthouse: This Property In The US Is So High You Can Almost 'See' Earth's Curvature

It just doesn't get any better! A three-storey apartment in New York, US, is on sale for a whopping $250 million. The property is spread over 17,500 square feet, and offers a 360-degree view that really takes your breath away.

The apartment is located on the 129th to 131st floors of Central Park Tower, which is one of the world's tallest. It comes in at an astonishing 1,400 feet above sea level. That incredibly means that you get a visual illusion of the Earth's curvature given the enormous height at which the property is located.
The minimum altitude at which the curvature of the horizon can be detected is 35000 ft, which is almost 10 km high. So, we can only get an illusion of that from high-rise buildings.
You can see the effect of the curvature, such as watching a ship sail away into the distance and appear to be sinking.

The sprawling penthouse is perched on Manhattan's "Billionaires' Row," a strip of super-tall skyscrapers along the southern end of Central Park. It has 23 rooms, 7 beds, 9.5 showers, and 17,545 square feet of space. It's being billed as the highest residence in the world at 1,416 feet.
As if that wasn't enough space already, the penthouse also has a ballroom measuring 2,000 square feet.
The property, which is being dubbed as the most expensive in the US, has been listed by real estate agent Ryan Serhant.
"I¡¯ve been selling real estate for 15 years now, and I¡¯ve sold some of the most expensive real estate in New York, Florida, everywhere. I have never seen anything like this apartment", Serhant told CNBC.
Despite its steep price, Serhant thinks the value of the property is reasonable, as he cited the sale of a penthouse at nearby 220 Central Park South for $190 million.
"I know it sounds crazy, but relatively speaking, it¡¯s priced at a great value on a per-square-foot basis. It¡¯s just a very, very big apartment with lots of amenities, " he said.
As one would expect, the penthouse's list of potential buyers is limited to the mega-rich.
"The purchaser of this apartment is someone who is looking to diversify their assets. It¡¯s someone who probably owns expensive art, probably has an expensive car collection and other things, and they want the best of the best," Serhant told the outlet.

The home has the highest terrace in the world, a glass-rimmed platform soaring 1,460 feet above Manhattan. It also comes with a lavish list of building amenities, including an outdoor pool, an indoor saltwater pool, a spa, a private garden, and much more.
"Each floor is a sanctuary unto itself, with private elevator vestibules and separate entry points. The lower level sits on the 129th floor and begins with a sprawling north-south gallery culminating in a sublime spiral staircase," the property listing reads.
