A courageous paraglider from South Africa has made the first legal flight from the world's tallest mountain - Mount Everest.
This paraglider named Pierre Carter leapt off close to the summit at an altitude of nearly 8,000 meters. He cruised around the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas.
Even though the rest of his team went back by foot, Carter cruised down at 50 miles per hour. He reached his destination in 20 minutes. His destination was the small settlement of Gorakshep, which is at an altitude of 5,164 meters or about 3.2 miles.
According to The Himalayan Times, the 56-year-old could complete this venture after obtaining a permit from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation from the Nepali authorities.
Carter is not the only person to cruise from mount Everest, three teams have already covered the amazing distance. However, Carter is the first person to achieve such a milestone after legally getting a permit from the Nepali government.
French alpinist and pilot Jean-Marc Boivin was the first person to fly a paraglider from Everest in 1988. The second team to make a flight from Everest was Bertrand ¡®Zebulon¡¯ Roche and Claire Bernier back in 2001.
After 10 years in 2011, Sano Babu Sunuwar and Lakpa Tsheri Sherpa became the first Nepali paragliders to jump off Everest conducting a tandem flight.
