What is a pod hotel?
A pod hotel has a number of small rooms or "pods" that consist of a bed each. It is also known as a capsule hotel. This concept was first introduced in Japan in order to provide cost-friendly and comfortable accommodation to travellers. Ever since its introduction by the Japanese, one of the finest planners in the world, the concept now has a growing interest in India as well.
Urbanpod was the first one to launch a pod hotel boutique in India.
The Ministry of Railways showed the Urbanpod hotel in Mumbai Central station - it has a row of pod rooms that can be occupied by travellers for short stays at affordable rates.
The modern pod rooms at the station are painted in shades of beige, brown and white. The pods feature a single bed, mirror and private space.
"Travelling by train on a short business trip or taking a group of students on a tour, POD rooms at Mumbai Central station are here to make your journey comfortable and easy," the Ministry of Railways wrote while sharing photos on Twitter.
