In Another Racist Attack Amid COVID-19 Outbreak, Mumbai Man Spits Paan On Woman From Manipur
Reports of another racist attack from Mumbai emerged. The man in question reportedly spat paan on a woman from the northeast. National Commission for Women is looking into the matter and an investigation is underway.
After the COVID-19 outbreak, a video of students from the northeast surfaced online. In it, they appealed to others to not call them 'coronavirus.' Not only is the stupidity of such people resorting to such racist attacks and harassment shocking, it's scary to think of its impact on someone's life.
Moreover, it's saddening that the colour of one's skin or their facial features are still a matter of debate in the middle of a full-blown pandemic.
But before we could mull over that, reports of another such racist attack from Mumbai emerged. The man in question reportedly spat paan on a woman from the northeast. Reportedly, the National Commission for Women is looking into the matter and an investigation is underway.

The commission posted about the incident on their official Twitter handle. The caption of the post read, 'Yet another case of racial discrimination amid #COVID19outbreak, a miscreant spat on a northeastern girl at Kalina Market area in Mumbai. NCW will look into this matter for appropriate action.'
A Facebook post about the incident was also attached in the Twitter thread. It revealed photos of paan stains on the girl's clothes. The Facebook post's caption reads, 'A North East girl from Manipur is the new victim again here in Mumbai. This happened just an hour ago. A biker came and spat on her. Mumbai is one of the most peaceful and safest place for North-East people and this was never expected. Just because of few pathetic people like him, the entire city name is getting spoiled and people are feeling insecure.'
In another incident that took place a few days ago, a Manipuri woman from Delhi¡¯s Vijay Nagar area was spat on by a middle-aged man who shouted ¡°Corona¡± at her before fleeing on his two-wheeler.
Unfortunately, in both cases, the attackers managed to get away. It does make us think if they are capable of more damage which makes them a threat to society and its well-being.
