New Zealand has reported no new COVID-19 case for 14 days in a row now, and because of this, the country might soon expect to have some semblance of normalcy, soon.
Currently, there is only one active case which will only be declared recovered at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms and 48 hours after the symptoms ended, director general of health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, said at a briefing.
New Zealand lifted much of the lockdown restrictions in mid-May, but social distancing norms and ban on large gatherings is still in place. But with no new coronavirus cases in 14 days, government is planning to lift ALL restrictions.
Shopping centres, retail stores and restaurants have already been allowed to reopen in New Zealand, although social distancing has remained in place until now and gatherings are limited to 10 people.
The country is planning to move to alert level one which means there would be no restrictions on domestic transport, no restrictions on gathering, and all schools and workplaces would open.
However, the country has kept its borders closed and there is an indication that foreigners won't be allowed to enter the territory until another month or so.
Alert level one will mean crowded stadiums, restaurants filled to capacity, return of sports events and almost no social distancing - this might soon be New Zealand¡¯s reality.
If this happens, New Zealand will become one of the first countries to say goodbye to coronavirus social distancing norms.
Jealous much?
