There have been over 1.5 million reported cases of coronavirus. However, we are all so focussed on the negative that not many of us know that over 3,00,000 of these people have fully recovered from the deadly virus.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center, over 308,000 people have recovered from COVID-19 as of Wednesday.
Some health experts believe that the actual number of people who have recovered could be higher. As various countries, including the United States do not have the capacity to test everyone who might have the coronavirus. Therefore, people who are infected, experience mild symptoms and then fully recover never get tested and so are not included in the data set.
Johns Hopkins' data shows that most of the recoveries were in China, the country from where the outbreak originated. China has reported more than 77,000 recoveries.
In the U.S., the number of recovered patients is over 21,000. The number will hopefully rise drastically soon. There is also a lag when it comes to reporting cases that have recovered as COVID-19 patients are only deemed recovered two weeks after they first exhibit symptoms.
The U.S is the most recent epicentre of the pandemic after Italy and Spain, the country is under lockdown which might be extended for a longer time, something that will be decided by April 20.
The U.S. is in the deadly week of pandemic and has reported a record number of over 1,800 deaths on Tuesday. The country seems to be getting on the ¡®top of the curve¡¯ as the total number of deaths cross the 14,000 mark.
On the other hand, the number of cases and deaths in Italy and Spain are reducing and more and more people are recovering from the coronavirus. Days like these are not far away for the U.S. Now that China has apparently recovered from coronavirus, lockdown has been lifted in the country and people have been coming out in thousands. Lockdown has also been lifted from Wuhan, the origin point of the pandemic.
The city recently celebrated and after over two months of lockdown Wuhan had its first train and plane operate. Recovery of China should give hope to all other countries that recovery is in sight and soon the lockdowns will be lifted from around the world.
