Pakistan's Edhi Foundation Writes To PM Modi Offering 50 Ambulances To Aid Fight Against COVID-19
Known for its humanitarian relief work, Edhi has offered to send a fleet of 50 ambulances to India to assist efforts to cope with a massive surge in COVID-19 infections that have left the healthcare system overwhelmed in several cities.
As India continues to struggle in the face of rising COVID cases compounded by the dire shortage of medical supplies and resources, Pakistan¡¯s Edhi Foundation has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering assistance amid the crisis.
Known for its humanitarian relief work, Edhi has offered to send a fleet of 50 ambulances to India to assist efforts to cope with a massive surge in COVID-19 infections that have left the healthcare system overwhelmed in several cities.
In his letter, Faisal Edhi,
Edhi Foundation's chairman, said that he seeks to lead the team himself.
"We are very sorry to hear about the exceptionally heavy impact that the pandemic has had on your country, where a tremendous number of people are suffering immensely.... we would like to extend our help in the form of a fleet of 50 ambulances along with our services to assist you in addressing, and further circumventing, the current health conditions," the letter addressed to PM Modi said.

The letter added: ¡°We will arrange all the necessary supplies that our team needs to assist the people of India. Importantly, we are not requesting any other assistance from you, as we are providing the fuel, food, and necessary amenities that our team will require.¡±

The Edhi Foundation was founded by Abdul Sattar Edhi, a hero in Pakistan for his tireless work for the poor. The charity runs one of the country¡¯s largest free ambulance services, as well as orphanages, schools, food distribution centres and other charitable enterprises.
The charitable organisation¡¯s offer to help India came after the hashtag #IndiaNeedsOxygen started trending on number one in Pakistan early on April 23. Pakistanis have been requesting their Prime Minister Imran Khan to help India fight the current COVID-19 crisis.
