"He came to us as 'Rico' but when we realized what a talent he was, we nicknamed him 'Ricasso.' We like to think of it as his stage name; at home, he's 'Rico,' but amongst the art world, he is 'Ricasso.,'" WJLA quoted a spokesperson from the AWLA as saying.
Volunteers thought that his happy, wagging tail might be able to do more than convey his mood, so they thought that they could let him paint.
In the fall of 2019, Ricasso produced 20 pieces of art as part of his debut collection, and these were displayed throughout the AWLA¡¯s halls. Seeing how intriguing his work was visitors inquired how they could be an owner of Ricasso Original.

A week ago, volunteers held an event where attendees met Ricasso before bidding on his art. In less than an hour all of Ricosso¡¯s 20 pieces were sold and they fetched $4000 (approx Rs 2.8 lakh).
A bidder at the event said, ¡°Owning a Ricasso original means so much to me. The value isn¡¯t just in the painting but also knowing the journey the artist took during his time at the shelter.¡±
