A month ago, during Shradh, the reddit user found that the local vegetable vendor was out of stock, so they had to try ordering from Instamart.
The user later shared their experience on Reddit, revealing that online grocery services often deliver less than the amount of vegetables ordered.
Although the prices were slightly higher than what they would usually pay in the local market, the urgency of the situation made it seem like a convenient solution.
As the user unpacked the groceries, one particular vegetable caught their attention: a cauliflower, which seemed lesser in weight.
They decided to check the rest of the vegetables as well, only to find that most of them were underweight.
The realisation left them stunned¡ªthey had paid for more than what they received.
The user quickly reached out to Swiggy support, hoping for a swift resolution.
However, the experience with their customer service only added to the frustration. ¡°Swiggy support was shameless including their escalation team as they were not ready to replace the items and were trying to play smart with words for a partial refund,¡± they said.
Unable to resolve the issue, they took matters into their own hands. ¡°Finally reported the issue to govt's Ingram consumer helpline and also mailed my bank to reverse credit the amount.¡±
The complaint with Swiggy is still open, though they have officially responded. In the meantime, the user¡¯s bank provided a provisional reverse credit for the amount in question.
Reflecting on the experience, the user shared, "Do not go by weight stickers on products. Do actually check them and raise complaint when deviation observed. And of course buy from local vendors, it is cheap, less cumbersome. Do not fall for discounts, you will end up paying more from your pocket.¡±
How did people respond?
One user commented, ¡°Swiggy keeps pulling. Think about how many orders they deliver every single day and how often they underweigh stuff compared to what¡¯s printed on the stickers. It¡¯s not some innocent mistake; it¡¯s a system.¡±
Another shared a similar experience, saying, ¡°Faced this issue with Big Basket also. They have stopped putting stickers on most items so one can't take a picture with their own print showing an error. Many items are delivered in open packaging so they can claim something was taken out or may have fallen out. In my view, they are all playing with the fact that most people who order from these apps do not have time to go into these nitty gritty checks.¡±
