In a nail-biting incident, head constable Kamlesh Kumar Dubey saved the life of an elderly woman by pulling her up before a speeding Madhya Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express at Lalitpur Junction.
The official, who is due to retire in 18 months, has served in the Railway Protection Force for 33 years.
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, and people are labelling Dubey as "Superman".
In a phone interview with Times of India, Dubey said, "I was at platform 2 and 3, when I saw elderly women heading towards a secluded area of the station through a railway track after alighting from the platform. I objected to their movement, but they didn¡¯t pay heed to my appeal. Couple of minutes later, the women started walking back towards platform 2 by crossing the railway track and again I objected, as Madhya Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express was about to pass via station. The women didn¡¯t listen to me. While one managed to climb the platform, the other septuagenarian was still on track."
"I rushed to the edge of the platform and used all my strength to pull her up. She was saved by a fraction of second. During the act, my training of RFP helped me to maintain stability on the platform while the speeding express train passes and I managed to hold the woman," said Dubey.
The father of four belongs to Magarpur village of Jhansi district. The rescued woman was identified as Ramsakhi Tiwari, a resident of Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. She was on her way to Haridwar with her family, but her train Kalinga Utkal express was delayed by several hours. She went to use the bathroom with her sister-in-law after crossing the railway track which led to the whole incident.
