With bags packed and mobile phones in their hands, Ukrainians are filling up metro stations in Kyiv to find safer shelters after the Russian invasion.

News agency AFP took to the microblogging website Twitter to share the aforementioned photos with the caption, "People, some carrying bags and suitcases, walk at a metro station in Kyiv early today."

The now-viral images show Ukrainians filling up metro stations in Kyiv with their bags and suitcases in an attempt to flee the turmoil that could follow. From individuals to families with children, there are photos of everyone at metro stations in Ukraine.
"In the name of humanity, do not allow to start in Europe what could be the worst war since the beginning of the century," said UN chief Guterres.
Vladimir Putin's surprise announcement
"I have made the decision of a military operation," Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a surprise TV announcement which was followed by condemnation by other world leaders.
US President Joe Biden said, "President (Vladimir) Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering."
"Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring. The world will hold Russia accountable," President Biden added.

The news agency also reported that black smoke was seen rising from a military airport in Chuguyev near Kharkiv, Ukraine. Ukraine border guards have reported the first death and said Russia's ground forces have crossed into Ukraine from several directions.

Ukraine has also reached out to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help de-escalate the situation.
"India has a special relationship with Russia and New Delhi can play a more active role in controlling the situation (Russia-Ukraine crisis). We urge PM Narendra Modi to immediately contact Russian President Vladimir Putin and our President Volodymyr Zelensky," Ukrainian Ambassador to India Igor Polikha has said.
